When it is time to undergo dental treatments to maintain your smile, you want to know that you will be comfortable and relaxed during your procedures. At Peninsula Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we understand that dental care is not always fun – it can be scary for some people. We want every patient to feel at ease while we provide exceptional care for their oral health. We offer a variety of sedation dentistry options for our patients at our state-of-the-art facility in Charleston, SC.

Nitrous Oxide

For many decades, nitrous oxide has been used for sedation dentistry. This is a mild sedative, known as “laughing gas,” that you breathe in to relax your mind. The gas gives you a slight feeling of euphoria, but you are awake and aware during your dental procedure. Nitrous oxide can be used safely with children, teens and adults to calm nerves or help those with special needs relax, like those with a sensitive gag reflex.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation may be recommended for those with mild to moderate dental anxiety. This is an oral medication that is taken before your dental appointment to put you in a relaxed state for your procedure. You will still be conscious and responsive during your treatment but very relaxed. Some patients may not remember their procedure due to the medication, but they will remain awake. This sedation requires a responsible adult to bring the patient to and from their dental appointment.

IV Sedation

IV sedation may be your best option if you are undergoing oral surgery or have severe dental anxiety/phobia. This is performed for invasive or extended procedures or when a patient needs to be completely sedated due to phobia or other special needs. Patients will need someone to drive them to and from their appointment when IV sedation is used.

With sedation dentistry, everyone can enjoy the benefits of a healthy, beautiful smile. Contact our helpful, friendly team at Peninsula Cosmetic & Family Dentistry in Charleston, SC, to learn more about our sedation dentistry options or schedule an appointment.

No Insurance?
No Problem!

Join our Premier Plan Today

Dentistry should be as affordable as it is high-quality. At Peninsula Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we firmly believe that the terms of a dental insurance plan (or lack thereof) should not dictate the quality of care our patients deserve. That’s why we are pleased to offer our in-house savings plan.

Now, patients who are uninsured can STILL save on general, preventative, and even ortho services!
